Piercing Aftercare Guide

Why is proper aftercare important?
Aftercare helps prevent infections and supports faster healing. Most problems occur as a result of not following the recommended instructions.

✅ Aftercare Recommendations

🖐
Wash your hands before touching the piercing.
It is essential to wash your hands thoroughly before touching the pierced area to prevent the bacteria transfer.
🔄
After the first 24 hours gently rotate the earring. (See photo)

Do not use alcohol or disinfectant solutions. They can irritate the skin and slow down the healing process.
💧
Keep the area clean and dry.
During the healing process, avoid excessive moisture around the piercing, as this can create an environment that allows bacterial growth.

🚫 What should be avoided?

✋
Do not touch or move the earring unnecessarily.
Avoid frequent or unnecessary touching of the piercing to prevent irritation and reduce the risk of infection.
🔒
Do not tighten the earring. (See photo)

If the earring back is too tight, it can press into the back of the ear and cause discomfort.
Make sure the earring back is secured in the groove on the earring post,
so that the tip of the earring and the end of the earring back are at the same level.
🧴
Avoid irritating products.
During the healing period, avoid contact with irritating products such as hairspray, creams, body oils, etc.
If any of these products come into contact with the pierced area, rinse it immediately with clean water.

⚡ What can be done to speed up the healing process?

📅
Keep the earring in place for at least 4 weeks (earlobe) or 8 weeks (cartilage).
It is essential to leave the earring in the pierced area for the recommended period to allow the piercing to heal properly. After this period, you can replace the earrings.
🔁
Only replace the earrings after the recommended healing period.
It is important to wear the new earring continuously to prevent the piercing from closing. Avoid earrings made from materials that may cause allergic reactions.

🔵 Normal Reactions

Slight swelling and redness immediately after piercing are normal reactions and should subside within 48 hours if the aftercare instructions are followed correctly.

🔴 Warning Signs

If you experience severe pain, significant swelling or persistent redness, consult a doctor to prevent potential complications.

🛑 Special Care for Cartilage Piercings

Cartilage piercings require extra care, as this type of tissue is more sensitive and may take longer to heal, usually around 2–3 months. Slight swelling and redness immediately after the procedure are normal; however, these symptoms should subside within 48 hours if the aftercare instructions are followed correctly.

During the healing process, avoid putting pressure on the pierced area, as this may cause additional irritation. Do not change the earring before the recommended healing period has fully passed (8 weeks for cartilage piercings). After this period, make sure the new earrings are made of surgical-grade stainless steel and avoid earrings made from metals or other materials that may irritate the skin.

If you experience severe pain, increased swelling, or persistent redness after a few days, it is essential to seek medical attention to prevent complications that could potentially lead to cartilage damage.
